Connect
Your server, signed in once.
Pick Add a Jellyfin server…, type its address and sign in with your Jellyfin user. That's the whole setup.
- An address like 192.168.1.100:8096 at home, or https://media.example.com from anywhere
- Your libraries, Continue Watching and search, straight from the server
- Where you stop is saved on the server, so Jellyfin on your TV or in a browser carries on from there
- Room for more: another Jellyfin, an Emby or a Plex server, all in one library
Stream
The original file, not a copy.
Portage asks Jellyfin for the file itself whenever your device can play it. Full picture, full sound, and nothing for the server to transcode. That matters when Jellyfin runs on a NAS or a small box.
- Every audio and subtitle track, switchable while it plays
- Jellyfin only transcodes when the original can't play here
- On a slow connection, you pick the size before it starts
- Picture in Picture, and pinch to fill the screen

or a size you pick
Download
Jellyfin, offline.
Download a film or a whole season before a flight. It's a real file: in the Files app on iPhone and iPad, and in a folder you pick on the Mac.
- Download Original: the untouched file, every track inside it
- Download Transcoded: Jellyfin makes a smaller copy. Pick the audio, a subtitle and the quality, and see the size first
- Download & Transcode: the original comes down, then Portage converts it on your device for the screen you pick
- Downloads carry on in the background and resume after interruptions
The untouched original
Cast
Jellyfin on the big screen.
Chromecast, Google TV and DLNA TVs on your network show up on their own, with AirPlay in the same menu. Your phone stays the remote.
- Casts the original file when the TV can play it, even an MKV
- Pause, seek and switch audio or subtitles from your phone
- Any browser works, even your car's: open tv.rikard.dev and type the code it shows
Convert
Converted on your device.
When a file won't play on a TV, Portage makes a copy that will, on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Your Jellyfin server doesn't do the work. Presets for Apple TV, Chromecast and iPhone pick the codec and container, and a paused conversion carries on where it stopped.

Questions
Is Portage the official Jellyfin app?
No. Portage works with your Jellyfin server, but Jellyfin doesn't make or endorse it. It connects to your Jellyfin server like any other client, with your own Jellyfin user.
Does it work away from home?
If your Jellyfin server is reachable from outside your network, yes, the same way the official apps reach it. Anything you've downloaded plays with no connection at all.
Does my server have to transcode?
For streaming, only when the original file can't play on your device. Portage plays the file itself whenever it can, and conversions for a TV run on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, not on the server.
What do I need?
A Jellyfin server you can sign in to, and an iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or a Mac on macOS 12 or later. Portage has no ads.
